Official Rules
The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for the Raptor Taxon Advisory Group (TAG). The logo may be used in all media – including online, print, on merchandise and other visual collateral. Following are the official contest rules:
  • Individuals or teams may submit entries
  • There is no limit on the number of entries per individual/team.
  • All submitted work must be the original work of the entrant(s) and must not include, be based on, or derived from any pre-existing or third-party designs, trademarks, or copyrighted images.
  • All entries will become the property of the Raptor TAG/African Vulture SAFE program. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees that any and all intellectual property rights in the logo design are deemed assigned to Raptor Taxon Advisory Group, of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
  • Except where prohibited by law, an entry submission into this contest constitutes permission to use the winner’s name, likeness, and information provided on the entry form for publicity purposes, without further permission or compensation.
  • The Raptor TAG reserves the right to modify the winning logo.
  • The decisions of the Selection Committee will be final.
  • The selected winner MUST submit a scalable vector version (preferably an .eps) of the winning design so that it is adaptable to electronic and print media, to reproduction on small and large surfaces, and to use in color or in grayscale.
  • Minimum 225 ppi/dpi minimum resolution
  • Approximately 2000 x 2000 pixels (8.5”)
  • Please flatten your artwork for submission. If you use fonts in your image, and cannot flatten the image for some reason, please either convert text to outlines, or include them with your file.
  • Please. No Word files, no PowerPoint files. These are not printing resolution applications.
  • Hand drawn art must be converted to a vector and meet other design specifications.
Required design elements:
  • Feature at least one of the six species from the African Vulture SAFE program (Cape vultures, African White-backed Vultures, Lappet-faced Vultures, Ruppells Griffon Vultures, White-headed Vultures, and Hooded Vultures).
  • Should color coordinate with SAFE logo by using one of the four colors (see color palette below), and no more than 8 total colors total (for tshirt-printing reasons).
  • Should include “Save Our Scavengers” in text.
  • Include the Vulture SAFE logo (landscape or portrait version)
  • Beyond that, anything goes!

Encouraged design elements
  • Logo should be designed for either a chest display or printed on the back of the shirt
  • To save on printing costs, we're asking that the SAFE logo be incorporated so we can print on one side of the shirt only this year.
Additional design considerations
We will use this Graphic in a wide range of sizes, from 1.5” up to 10” or larger. This makes it a challenge to design a clear, readable image at such varying uses, like letterhead and posters. A good test of your design is to print it on 8.5" x 11" paper and put it 10 feet away; can you still read everything?
How to Enter
To enter the Raptor TAG Logo Design Contest, eligible participants must:
  • Submit your design via Google Drive by following this link to a submission form and upload your submission (one submission per form)
  • Acceptable file formats and resolution requirements are: PSD, EPS, AI, JPG, TIFF, PNG
  • If you are chosen as a winner, you MUST be able to provide a high resolution vector file (e.g., in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign.
  • Submit your completed Entry Form and design May 31, 2020.

Selection Criteria
The African Vulture SAFE Steering Committee will evaluate all entries based on the following criteria (though other criteria may be considered):
  • Relevance – Does the entry align with the African Vulture SAFE program?
  • Originality – Does the composition exhibit original design, creativity, and imagination?
  • Aesthetic Quality – Does the submission command attention? Does it display visual balance and color coordination? Do all the elements work together to create a unified and appealing design?
  • Reproducibility - on website and documents
  • The Selection Committee reserves the right not to select a winner, if in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.
  • There is no prize or other monetary compensation for the winning logo.
  • Logo entrants will be notified of the results via email once a decision has been.
  • Winning artwork becomes the property of the Raptor TAG/African Vulture SAFE program for use and/or modification in literature, promotional materials, and fundraising.
